From the recording Tortology

A song about a really bad day. I should point out that it is not entirely biographical, and to the extent that it may be, the events didn't all happen on the one day. This song came to life via a website which posted a weekly "song title" and invited artists to write a song based on the title. This was my response. "What's the Attraction" came from the same source. Both songs won their respective weekly prize.

Lyrics

THAT’S IT I’VE HAD ENOUGH

What am I doing here
With these rat-race Zombies,
Locked into the 9 to 5
Giving into routine without a fight
Whatever happened to the paperless office
I’m drowning waist deep in a sea of ex forest
Land line in my left ear, my mobile in my right

My boss comes up to me in a state
Says you haven’t moved nothing from your intray
I stand seething with anger
Stare him in the eye and give him the finger and scream

That’s it I’ve had enough
That’s it, that’s it that’s it,
I’ve had enough
That’s it I’ve had enough
That’s it, that’s it that’s it
I’ve had enough

What am I doing here
Drinking on my own
In a god-forsaken lonely dive
Killing brain cells by the score
Whatever happened to rational analysis
I’m drowning myself into self-induced paralysis
What the hell I’ll have one more

Just then I spy from afar
A cute young thing striding to the bar
I try to stand, return her smile
My legs give way and as my head hits the tiles I scream

That’s it I’ve had enough
That’s it, that’s it that’s it,
I’ve had enough
That’s it I’ve had enough
That’s it, that’s it that’s it
I’ve had enough

Lifted to my feet,
Thrown into the street
By two beefy bouncers
I throw a quick jab

I cop a few blows,
The next thing I know
I’m lying face down in the back of a cab

What am I doing here
Prostrate on my front lawn,
Trying to make it to the door
At least I’ve made it home alive

I see a light go on in the hallway
Next thing I know my wife’s in the doorway
She sees the blood on my shirt,
Smells the grog on my breath
Slams the door in my face
And with a look of death screams

That’s it I’ve had enough
That’s it, that’s it that’s it,
I’ve had enough
That’s it I’ve had enough
That’s it, that’s it that’s it
I’ve had enough
